Why is it good for developers to give away free apps?

#1 app in Entertainment! Did iPhone App Reviews.net do this? Hmm...

THIS IS WHY!

…a few days after the codes were published to your site, Animation Creator is now featured in “What’s Hot!”, is [now] top 10 in entertainment, and is #62 over-all!

That’s from Red Software, maker of Animation Creator after I posted 40 codes that they provided for IAR’s free promo code giveaways.

Was Animation Creator’s sudden jump in status a direct result of giving out the codes? I can’t say for certain, but I’m sure it didn’t hurt.

I just posted 30 more codes for the same app, and hopefully Red Software will let me know if their App Store rankings improve at all.

Giving away free codes was the best thing Red Software could have done to get Animation Creator noticed, and iPhoneAppReviews.net was obviously the right way to go when giving them away!

    Many thanks to IAR!

Do you have any stats on the performance of apps at different price points? Free vs. $.99 vs. $1.99 vs. higher?
