It surprises me that people don’t know how to do this, but I see people coming to iPhone App Reviews on search terms like “how to move iPhone icons” and “rearrange iPhone apps”.
It’s really simple: just press and hold any icon on your iPhone.
When you see an (x) appear on each icon and they’re all wobbling, that’s your cue to use your finger to drag them to wherever you want them to go. To move an icon to a different page, just drag it to the very edge of your screen and you’ll eventually change pages. If it doesn’t work right away, just keep holding the icon at the edge and maybe wiggle it around a little.
When you’re done moving your iPhone apps around, push the Home button beneath your iPhone’s screen.
If you want to reset the order of your icons, go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout. This will move most, if not all, of your default apps (Calendar, Photos, Weather, etc.) to the first page and the rest of your apps will be arranged in some order that I don’t really understand. They’re not necessarily arranged alphabetically, so who the hell knows why they end up where they do.

Yesterday I ran into this problem for about the 50th time since I got my iPhone 3G about a month ago… 3rd party apps open and immediately close, but the default apps that came with the phone (Safari, Mail, Maps, etc.) all work just fine.
Here’s how I’ve fixed it in the past:
- Erase and reset. Pain in the ass.
- Erase and, per the instructions of someone at Apple support, login as a different user on my computer (PC) and reinstall the iPhone software. Apparently the change in user forces iTunes to do a fresh install as if it’s a brand new iPhone. Then after installation of the software, install all of my 3rd party apps one at a time. UGH.
That’s great, but erasing and resetting sucks. Yesterday when I ran into this problem again, I uninstalled Facebook and the problem persisted (all of my other apps were still on the phone).
Today, I updated my iPhone software to 2.0.2, apps still didn’t work. Then I reinstalled Facebook and VOILA everything works again!
I’ve always had an inkling that the Facebook app was causing a problem, but I’ve never had any hard evidence. I still don’t know if this is a definitive indictment of Facebook’s iPhone app, but it’s quite a coincidence.
edit: See the comments below. It seems that selecting Store > Authorize Computer in iTunes also works at least some of the time.

WTF!! I guess I’m not very observant. I just now figured this out after actually looking at an iTunes email receipt for the first time. That sucks balls.
What this means is that developers who are using Paypal to compensate for my cost of buying their apps will need to add tax, too. Sorry kids, but hey at least it’s not much $$$. To save you the trouble of doing all the math for adding in Paypal + sales tax, here’s a list of what you need to send me for the lower app prices:
$.99……. $1.40
$1.99…… $2.45
$2.99…… $3.70
$3.99…… $4.80
$4.99…… $5.90
$5.99…… $7.00
$6.99…… $8.10
$7.99…… $9.20
$8.99…… $10.30
$9.99…… $11.40
Obviously I’m not looking to “get paid” here, I just don’t wanna be the one who winds up doing the paying.
Any questions, just use the contact form or send an email to reviewme at iphoneappreviews dot net.
